Essentials[edit]

As soon as the level starts, strafe left to collect a chaingun then turn right and kill the zombiemen (or shotgun guys on Ultra-Violence (UV) and Nightmare (NM) skill levels) which are firing at you, then follow the path until you drop into a nukage pool with imps and chaingunners; the nukage is not harmful. Open the east door to confront another chaingunner (and two spectres on Hurt Me Plenty), then open another door straight ahead to enter a gray room with more zombies - the yellow skull key is hidden inside the column on the center platform, guarded by two mancubi (or arachnotrons on UV and NM). Go down to the pit surrounding the platform and press the button in the north-west corner to open a door above you, which leads to an office where one or two revenants are guarding a small green button that will open a second office to the south. Inside the second office are two chaingunners and another button that will lower the column holding the yellow key - use the metal lifts on the bottom floor to reach the center platform, but watch out for the crusher that surrounds the key as you pick it up.

Go back outside and open the yellow key door, flip the switch behind it to raise a bridge across the nukage then use the nearby teleporter to get back to the starting point. Head north across the bridge you just raised to get a super shotgun, then west to see two revenants (or an arch-vile on HMP or higher) protecting a rocket launcher and a button, which you can press to raise a second bridge next to the first. Go back to the bridge and slay any revenants that have teleported in, then proceed west to a square area with numerous imps and press any of the inner walls that have lights to lower them, revealing a cyberdemon guarding a switch. After flipping the switch, head east until you drop into the nukage again to find that the red skull key has been ejected from a small hole in the wall.

Use the teleporter to get back up to the walkway, then return to the cyberdemon's enclosure and open the red key door in the west wall to find a revenant (or arch-vile on HMP or higher) guarding a button; the button lowers two sets of skull bars, allowing you to enter the trenches to your left and right. Go into both trenches, collecting a supercharge inside the south trench as you go, and press the button at the end of each one, then go back up to the red key door to find that a set of bars have opened leading to a small courtyard with the blue skull key. A megasphere and three super shotguns have been placed at the entrance, but avoid getting the megasphere until you need it as four revenants and two arch-viles will appear in the surrounding cages.

Go back to the gray room and open the locked door in the north-east corner to confront imps and Hell knights (a baron of Hell is also present on HMP), then press the button on the back wall to enter a room with a nukage pit defended by chaingunners and more imps. Drop into the pit and press the button in the north-east corner to raise the nukage, then head north across a bridge that has also risen to reach a button. Press the button to go up to the exit area and dispose of two or three knights, then go inside the marble structure to collect a backpack; the blood in this structure will reduce your health to 1%, at which point the level will automatically end.

Other points of interest[edit]

On I'm Too Young To Die (ITYTD) and Hey Not Too Rough (HNTR), a megaarmor and chainsaw can be found on the yellow key platform.

When you reach the nukage pit near the end of the level, go round it instead of dropping into the pit and continue north until you drop into another nukage pool that has chaingunners and shotgun guys. The teleporters here will return you to the previous area with the knights and imps, where you can collect a rocket launcher. Note that once you raise the nukage, this area will become unreachable.

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the hall connecting the nukage area to the gray room, shoot the middle wall with a light on it to find a berserk pack. (sector 64)
  2. On the crusher platform, jump south-west to the teleporter to teleport to the megasphere in the nukage area. (sector 89)
  3. After flipping the switch behind the yellow key door, a bridge raises which connects two walkways in the nukage area. Cross this bridge going north and west to a button. The wall with a light that is closest to the button can be lowered, revealing four backpacks (or eight on ITYTD and HNTR). (sector 143)
