Walkthrough[edit]
Essentials[edit]
You begin at the Tower of Babel, facing a hole in the floor next to the cyberdemon’s corpse. Enter the hole to teleport to a red valley and collect various weapons, then go east and south past some lost souls until you drop down to a cavern with a blood pool. Go through the cavern to find several boxes of rockets then continue going forward until you round a corner and see a group of demons ahead; there is also a giant demon at the back of the group which is tougher to kill. Head north to drop into a pit then continue north across a bridge to a large marble wall, which will open as you approach to reveal a hall with imps and Hell nobles (plus revenants on Hurt Me Plenty skill level or higher) along with a berserk pack. Open either of the large doors at the north end of the hall, then continue north over some fleshy roots to find a pit with a giant eye in the center.
Climb to the north side of the pit then head north through a dark tunnel to enter a square arena with lava pools. There are three skull switches at the east, south and west ends of the arena which are marked on the automap; pressing all three switches will open the northern doors to reveal a cyberdemon along with the yellow skull key, but each switch you press will release a new wave of monsters into the arena. Once you have the yellow key (which will autosave the game when collected), leave the room through the western doorway and go straight forward to a brick wall with health bonuses on it—you can climb the bricks to reach the ledge with the arachnotron, then go north-east to drop into a fleshy cave. The red skull key is on a pillar at the south end of the cavern, but when you approach it you will be ambushed by a cyberdemon and four pain elementals. Kill this cyberdemon to make the pillar with the red key start moving, then pick up the key to autosave the game again.
After getting the red key, ride the platform it was on to the very top then run south to land on the pink wall below, allowing you to return to the yellow key area. Go back to the giant eye pit and open the large gates on the west side, then go straight forward across a bridge to find lots of supplies in front of a green portal. The portal will send you to the north-eastern arena where you will face the “Wrath of the Icon of Sin”—this giant breathes fire and throws explosive fireballs, and can summon a variety of monsters to fight along it. Once the Icon dies, go through the door that opens on the west side and step on the red teleporter pad to lower a spine lift which marks the start of E3M1: Hell Keep. Ride the lift up and press the eye switch at the top to end the level.

Secrets[edit]
- In the yellow key chamber, in the yellow key's room, look at the red column directly west of the lava pool to see a skull switch on its north side. Press the switch to lower a berserk pack. (sector 4322)
- In the yellow key chamber, head to the north-west hall and head east. Look for the second-to-last face at the north end and open it to get a berserk pack, an energy cell pack, and a backpack. (sector 4341)
- After passing through the white caves north-east of the eye room, you will enter a tunnel with a couple of arachnotrons. After passing the second pair of green torches, look west to see a hole in the wall and shoot the eye switch you can see through it, which will open the east wall to reveal a berserk pack, a plasma gun, and a chaingun. (sector 3938)
- Go to the pit with the rocket launcher on the east side of the map, then head east. In the next room, look past the hanging meat behind the grate on the east side of the room and shoot the eye switch behind it to lower the south wall, revealing two energy cell packs. (sector 3946)
- In the rock canyon at the north end, go to the doors to the north and open one to the west. Follow the health bonuses and go to the backpack, energy cell, and box of shotgun shells to the west. Open the south wall to get a megaarmor. (sector 2852)
- Enter the columned hall west of the rock canyon, then climb the steps until you can go to a room to the north. Press the switch there, descend the steps, and head south-west. Run and jump south to a platform that has ammo, partial invisibility, and a berserk pack. (sector 2942)
- With the blue key from the northernmost room, you can open the bars in the south-east end of the map to drop down to a supercharge. (sector 5245) The path here leads to a fight with the cyber Azazel.
