MAP36: Icon of Sin is Dead is the fourth map of After Doom. It was designed by 00_Zombie_00 and uses the music track "". The par time defined in MAPINFO is 36:40.

Essentials[edit]

You begin in front of the exploding Icon of Sin. Step off the lift to teleport to a building near the center of a city, then drop down to the road below and follow it west until you reach a river of lava. Kill three arachnotrons on the other side of the river, step across the broken chunks of road to get to their position, then collect the nearby plasma gun and continue west to the blue keycard. Taking the key opens four monster closets around you containing various enemies, and you can open the blue door here to reveal a cyberdemon guarding a supercharge and a teleporter. Enter the teleporter to go to a building in the south-east corner of the city, open the blue door ahead to face some shotgun guys then collect the chaingun they were guarding before climbing the stairs (the game will autosave here). Go north up another set of stairs to get a super shotgun, use it to kill the approaching Hell knights then go through the door on the west side and climb a third staircase to face two spectres. Climb yet another staircase to get a rocket launcher then run east to the end of the corridor, kill an arachnotron then step through the hole in the wall here to get a plasma gun.

Step through the window to drop to the pool below, which will cause the aracnorb queen and some forgotten ones to rise from it. The queen uses psionic projectiles and can fire them in a circle when injured; you will also need to watch out for the cacodemons and pain elemental that burst through the walls during the fight. Once the queen dies the large door in the north wall will explode to reveal a mancubus inside a lift. Press the button inside the lift to lower it, kill the imps waiting at the bottom then open the doors and push past a couple of knights to get back outside. Head due north until you reach a crossroads, then look west to see a road covered in lava pools that is guarded by a crowd of imps and demons. Head through the lava to a large marble fort and enter it to release a cyberdemon, then step forward to raise various monsters from the blood pools ahead that can absorb the cyberdemon’s rockets for you. After passing through the fort follow the road north and east to a pile of walls, use them to climb on the marble wall ahead then follow the wall west to the red skull key. Watch out for the imps, demons and revenants that appear on the flesh mountain as you approach the key.

Drop down to the road and open the large red door nearby, kill the enemies waiting behind it then enter the teleporter ahead to go to a small room (resembling the start of MAP30: Icon of Sin) with weapons, ammo and a megasphere. Enter the white teleporter to return to the city where a titanic Icon of Sin has appeared; as well as summoning monsters to fight alongside it, the Icon fires explosive fireballs from its brain, and can instantly kill you if you get too close to its stomping feet. Keep your distance from the Icon and get to higher ground to avoid being stomped, and use the allied marines and respawning ammo pickups to help you out. The level will automatically end when the Icon dies, sending you to MAP38: The Fallen Absolution.

Secrets[edit]

  1. Head all the way to the south end of the city and behind a truck to get a computer area map. (sector 1006)
  2. Open the blue door in the east building and head north until you see a dark section with lots of bodies on the floor. Head there and open the back wall to find a megaarmor. (sector 1727)
  3. From secret #2, head up the steps west of the dark section with lots of bodies and climb up more steps to the north. Jump west out the window and onto a rooftop that has a rocket launcher, boxes of rockets, and armor bonuses. (sector 1507)
  4. Inside the south-east building, go all the way west to the bodies, then open the south door to get the megaarmor. (sector 1746)
  5. Open the south wall in secret #4 to find boxes of rockets, a megasphere, and a hanging Duke Nukem. (sector 1749)
  6. On the starting rooftop of the city, jump north to another one and head to the super shotgun and backpack behind the vent. (sector 1859)
  7. Enter the marble temple at the north end and climb the first slope to the north. Go through the bloodfall to the east to get energy cell packs and a supercharge. (sector 3245)
