The mancubus returns in Doom: The Dark Ages. Compared to its previous appearance in Doom Eternal, it is even more evocative of the original Doom II design. It is especially large, towering over the Doom Slayer, and features a muted palette with fattier proportions than its Doom Eternal counterpart. It maintains its characteristic dual arm cannons, which are twin-barreled, and has plate armor over its shoulders. A massive fuel pack mounted on its back can be seen rising all the way above its head, with hoses running to its arm cannons.
Combat analysis[edit]
The normal mancubus can fire two pairs of slow-moving fireballs, which can be sidestepped or blocked. At close range, it will use its flamethrowers or a ground slam, the latter of which can also be parried. If it finds itself at a considerable distance from the Slayer it may launch pairs of brown orbs like those used by the vagary, which burst into damaging and movement-impeding pools of slime on the ground.
Armored mancubus[edit]
Some mancubi may also be equipped with metal armor on their heads and chests, making it necessary to break the armor before they can be attacked effectively. These armored mancubi can fire a linked chain of three energy projectiles which serves as a moving, damaging wall. The chained projectiles will always include one that can be parried, which should be used to the Slayer's advantage in breaking the mancubi's armor.
Lore[edit]
Mancubi serve as artillery units in the horde. Gluttonous and grotesque as always, the mancubus gorges on rotting flesh endlessly, eating until its organs burst. This is equaled by their lust for combat, where they kill and consume free from restraint. Once they have grown to such a degree that they cannot move, their bodies collapse and become a feast for younger mancubi, perpetuating an endless cycle.

Trivia[edit]
- A giant cosmic mancubus, known as the "Mega Mancubus", was considered in the early stages of the game's development. Its legs would have been replaced with a hovering trilobite.[1] The idea of a large variant of an enemy was not discarded, and was used for the cacodemon hybrid and its giant counterpart.
