Marisa Heit, also known as Randy or Randi, wrote and maintained the ZDoom source code. She is also the author of the ZETH level editor and the ZethBSP and ZDBSP node builders.
In January 2017, Marisa Heit retired from the ZDoom community, ceasing further development of ZDoom and announcing the QZDoom and GZDoom forks as its successors, as well as transferring the zdoom.org site to Rachael Alexanderson (Eruanna). The same year, Heit received the Espi Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Cacowards to salute the work she had accomplished with ZDoom.
She grew up teaching herself BASIC on her Commodore 64 and later using directly 6502 machine code, it was not until she moved to Amiga that she started using assembler.
