Mayhem Mansion is a 7-level ZDoom and GZDoom total conversion for Doom II, created by Darsycho. This offbeat TC is heavily influenced by Exploding Lips and other similarly low-quality Doom clones from the late 90s, utilizing many graphics and enemies from them. Originally released on 16 November 2013, a new version deemed the Mayhem Mansion - Extended edition was released three years afterwards, on 31 May 2016, introducing new levels and enemy types.

Monsters[edit]

There is an extensive number of different enemies in this game compared to DOOM and similar engines, and there appears to be very little relation between DOOM enemies and the enemies of this game. The game advises that enemies are weak to weapons for which they drop ammunition. Some enemies also have resistances—if an enemy has a resistance, the game will provide a message stating as such and play a fart noise.

Miscellaneous enemies:

Muncher
Pink monsters similar to pinkies that approach and bite the player. They're weak to attacks from the boomerang, and have extremely low health, such that they die to most attacks.
The muncher does have a fire muncher variant, which moves much faster, as well as an ice muncher, who is larger with greater health and has a slowing ice projectile attack.
Eyeball lamp
Seemingly ordinary lamps that fire eyeballs at the player from a stationary position. There's a significant delay between attacks.
TV Man
A walking TV that shoots blasts of static at the player.
Head bat
Red bats with a hand-drawn aesthetic that fly at and bite the player. Their behavior is similar to a lost soul, but more aggressive. They drop a single arrow on death.
French toast man
A flying piece of french toast with a red cape, who closes in on the player and chomps them.
Hugo the toaster
A toaster that rapidly spawns temporary french toast men.
Eyeball monster
a grotesque, floating eyeball monster that shoots homing projectiles. Drops a gold coin on death.
Raging ocular
A larger, more detailed-looking eyeball monster. Has more health than the eyeball monster, and its homing projectiles have a much stronger homing effect. Drops a box of ammo (+15 pellets) on death.
Troll
A large, hairy biped that closes in on the player and attacks them with a big stick. On death, spawns three smaller, weaker Trolls and some arrows (+5 arrows). The weaker trolls drop nothing.
Occasionally, the mini-trolls spawn as their own enemy.
Anvil bat
Similar to the Head bat, but, larger, more health, and also has an anvil projectile attack. Drops a gold coin and some magic (+3 magic) on death.
Overmind
Flying monster with three hands, a head with oversized eyes, and an exposed brain with a flower on top. Fires a spread of three projectiles that 'curse' the enemy, applying a filter and making them take more damage for a few seconds. Drops an arrow (+1 arrows) on death.
Turret
A stationary turret that fires a variety of powerful projectiles at the player.

Lip monsters:

Killer alien lips
Floating red lips that shoot out mines that blow up to damage the player. The mines are affected by gravity, which reduces their range. Drops a health elixir (+15 health) on death.
Dr. Face
A stronger version of killer alien lips, with a fangs and a single eye. Fires explosives that aren't affected by gravity. Drops a box of ammo (+15 pellets) on death.
Dr. Rostro
A stronger version of Dr. Face, with blue lips. Drops a box of ammo (+15 bullets) on death.
Lady lips
A creature that appears to be an orange abstract drawing with red lips and eyes. Fires red gas bombs at the player, which will cause continuous damage on contact until they dissipate. Drops a box of ammo (+15 pellets) on death.
During the boss fight with Mother, the lady lips enemies that spawn will drop twice as much ammo.
Giant alien lips
A giant pair of lips that shoots flowerpots that summon bomb storms, similar to the explosive flowerpot spell. Surprisingly low health, and weak to magic.

Boss-type monsters:

Boss man
A giant, grey humanoid. Slow-moving, with a large amount of health. He attacks with an extremely deadly melee, or by shooting projectile stone fists that function like rockets.
Sand man
A giant mummy, and a multi-phase boss monster. On the first phase, it will fire volleys of stone fists and white swirling projectiles. During the second phase, he'll shoot a blast of several metal balls of different sizes and periodically spawn smaller sand men to go attack you.
Mother
A giant flying potato(?) monster with grey drooping tentacles, head pincers, red shoulder hairs, and two pairs of red lips. Fires volleys of explosives at the player.
Lourd Outlaw
A 2-ton weight with arms, carrying dual pistols. Fires pellet projectiles at a rapid rate. Is invulnerable, but can be harmed by attacking his projectiles.
Mayhem
A powerful old man. Can fire powerful versions of nearly every type of projectile, and spawn monsters. Can also create copies of himself that rapid-fire anvils and rockets.

Toy monsters:

Wizard Toy
A life-size felt wizard toy, that walks around and shoots projectiles at the player. He alternates between volleys of explosives and static blasts. He drops some armor, magic (+3 magic), and a gold coin on death.
Billycopter
A flying toy helicopter, with leg blades, a face, and eyeball weapons. Fires dual lasers. Drops some magic (+3 magic) and grey armor on death.
Jonnytank
A toy tank with a face and muscular arms. Fires powerful tank projectiles, and can rapid-fire mines when the player is close enough.
Skelecopter
An upgrade to the Billycopter, with skeleton doll parts and red laser eye weapons. Shoots more powerful red lasers, and spawns temporary mini-clones that shoot bullets at the player.

Spooky monsters:

TV Man Ghost
A version of the TV man that is translucent. He has higher health, and makes almost no noise compared to the constant static of the TV man.
Malevolent book
A scary flying book that can fire blasts of paper or bite the player. Capable of short-range teleportation. Drops a gold coin on death.
Umbra Glob
A black glob that turns invisible on some frames. Approaches the player and attacks rapidly in melee range, but has a high pain chance. Usually spawns in groups.
Skeleton
A white spectre with a skull that fires a high-damage rotating skull projectile. Once slain, it spawns a walking skeleton that will try to melee attack the player. The skeleton drops a box of ammo (+15 pellets) on death.
Occasionally, the walking skeleton spawns as its own creature.
Shady Hands
A ghost that consists of two claws and a fanged skull, all black with white outlines and green eyes. It flies at the player through walls to attack them in melee, and spawns temporary pools of damaging black goo upon death.
There is a faster variant of Shady hands that has red eyes instead of green eyes.
Obake
An umbrella monster that towers over humans. The obake can resurrect enemies and spawn a projectile spawner directly on the player that will fire several projectiles after 1–2 seconds.

Weapons[edit]

Note: Damage types and resistance/weakness are a large part of the combat in Mayhem Mansion, and so the damage numbers here may not be reflective of the damage dealt to different enemies. For example, many magical attacks appear to deal low damage, but are super-effective against enemies weak to magic. Enemies will be weak to damage from the weapon that they drop ammunition for. If the player attacks an enemy with a weapon that they have resistance to, they'll receive a notice that their attack was ineffective.

Sword & Shield (slot 1)
A shield and sword that appear to be made of wood/cardboard. Like the fist, but attacks much faster. It deals a bit of knockback that will prevent enemies like the muncher or french toast man from landing a hit. Its alt attack is a boomerang, a low-damage projectile that costs no ammunition.
Primary attack - quick sword attack dealing 12–24 damage.
Alternate attack - a boomerang projectile attack dealing 4 damage.
Bomb (slot 1)
Thrown explosives that deal massive damage and can instantly kill some enemies. They can also be used to destroy barricades. Alt attack places a bomb trap for enemies to walk into.
Primary attack - explosive bomb dealing 75 damage.
Alternate attack - sets a bomb trap that explodes when enemies get close to it.
Scattergun (slot 2)
A double-barreled scattergun that fires a blast of several hitscan projectile with a wide spread. The spread is much more than the equivalent Doom weapons, requiring the player to get up close to deal full damage.
Primary attack - 7 hitscan projectiles dealing 8 damage each, in a 9-degree cone.
Alternate attack - 13 hitscan projectiles dealing 10 damage each, in a 17-degree cone. Uses 3 ammo.
Rifle (slot 2)
A rapid-fire rifle. Less damage per shot than the scattergun, but much more accurate and able to hit at long range. Alt attack uses a scope to zoom in.
Primary attack - a single projectile, dealing 18 damage.
Alternate attack - zooms in with 4.9x magnification.
Arbalest (slot 3)
A powerful crossbow that fires arrow projectiles. If the player misses, the arrow will be dropped as an item and can be picked up again. Its alt attack fires a tight spread of 3 rings that explode upon impact for high damage. This alt attack uses magic instead of arrows.
Primary attack - an arrow projectile that deals 100–110 damage.
Secondary attack - a tight spread of 3 explosive projectiles that deal 15 damage each, plus a large explosion that deals 7 damage each. Deals magical damage.
Magic Wand (slot 3)
A magical wand that fires a railgun-like projectile. As an alternate attack, it drops a blue orb that shocks and stuns enemies in its vicinity for several seconds.
Primary attack - a railgun projectile.
Secondary attack - a blue orb trap that stuns and damages enemies in its vicinity.
Magic Scrolls (slot 4)
An array of magical scrolls that allow you to cast one of three different damaging spells:
  • Ice Anvil - Fires an ice anvil, a large explosive projectile that hits for high damage and can freeze an enemy on death.
  • Monkey Storm - Fires a banana, which spawns 19 monkeys. One monkey explodes in the middle for about 9 damage, while the rest of the monkeys run away from the point of the impact and deal 2 damage on contact.
  • Explosive Flowerpot - Fires a flowerpot, which causes a storm of exploding flowerpots to rain down upon the point of impact for a few seconds.
The alt attack for the magic scrolls lets you choose which spell you'll use with the primary attack.
