Serrat

(Redirected from Mecha dragon)
The mecha dragon, Serrat.

Serrat, also known as the mecha dragon,[1] is a mount for the Doom Slayer appearing in Doom: The Dark Ages. It is a dragon similar to the wintherin like those from Doom Eternal, but is bulkier, with larger arms in particular, is partially covered in metallic armor, and has fully mechanized wings with jet engines attached near its back. Serrat has an autocannon on its back that is powerful enough to harm titanic enemies like the giant cacodemon and Titan.

Lore[edit]

Possessing size and power unmatched by other dragons, Serrat would not yield to the Order of Aerum and accepted only the Slayer as his alpha. He was grievously wounded by Hell's forces in the Battle of Black Pyres, but was saved by the Slayer's intervention. Commander Thira ordered the Sentinels to transform Serrat via advanced engineering, allowing him to continue his role as the Slayer's ultimate mount.

History[edit]

Spoiler Warning: Plot details follow.

Serrat is first called into action during the attack on Aratum as the Slayer takes to the skies upon leaving the Sentinel Barracks. As the Slayer lights the beacon in the Drakhelm aerie, two wintherin first land and try to fight for the right to act as the Slayer's mount, but Serrat frightens them away with a definitive display of dominance.

Serrat is next readied for battle at the Sentinel Command Station, helping the Slayer repel the demonic attack and attempting to chase after Commander Thira and the Kreed Maykr after they are taken to the Cosmic Realm. After failing to fly through the portal, the Slayer and Serrat next fight together at the Spire of Nerathul where the Doom Slayer releases the Old One.

Serrat's final appearance is during the battle with Enhanced Ahzrak. When the Slayer is impaled by Ahzrak's spear, Serrat flies in and forces Ahzrak back by breathing fire. When Serrat charges towards Ahzrak, he is impaled through the neck by Ahzrak's spear and dies almost instantly, which invokes visible fury within the Slayer.

After the battle against Enhanced Ahzrak, the Slayer briefly mourns Serrat before leaving. He would later be avenged when the Slayer returns to Hell and kills Ahzrak as the demon prince was attempting to escape.
