Doom 2[edit]

I feel strongly that this should be changed back to "Doom 2".

Per previous discussions at Central Processing, the Magic Bullet talk page, and a few other places on the forums at central, this page exists solely to optimize search rankings, not to be read by humans.  (If it were meant for humans, we would want a description analogous to "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia".  Simply listing game titles implies by omission that we are a typical gaming site, which is not at all true.)

Therefore, on this page only, the name of id's 1994 game should be misspelled if that's what most people do:

  • Google: 596,000 hits vs 277,000
  • Doomworld forums: [doesn't index short words]
  • rome.ro forums: [doesn't index short words]
  • rec.games.computer.doom.*: 8,150 vs 3,260
  • alt.games.doom.*: 3,330 vs 16,600 (crosspostings may be double-counted)

Makes sense and I fully agree. Reverting now. -- Janizdreg 20:37, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't it list Heretic and Hexen as well? (Strife, HacX, and ChexQuest are all obscure enough to be omitted there I think.) --Gez 09:38, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
According to the link in my last post, "the topic of the wiki + Wiki + 3 search friendly keywords" is recommended.  Probably there's a limit to how many keywords Google can extract before it thinks we're spamming (like the limit on meta keywords, which results in complete nonsense like this).    Ryan W 17:14, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Simplification suggestion[edit]

According to various SEO experts, keyword packing your title is just ineffective, and this reflects everything I've seen in the analytics since 2011. My suggestion is that we simplify our title to "$1 - The Doom Wiki at DoomWiki.org", and let page contents themselves (in particular, the meta title and description tags) do their own work as far as the content of each article goes. --Quasar (talk) 09:43, 20 August 2018 (CDT)

Sounds plausible – but I'm no expert. :) Still, agreed. --Xymph (talk) 07:08, 29 August 2018 (CDT)
