The nightmare spectre is a nightmare monster, appearing as a tougher form of spectre found in the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions of Doom and Final Doom, having double the hit points of ordinary spectres and demons. It appears in the PlayStation games as a demon subtractively blended against the background graphics. In the Sega Saturn version, it is indistinguishable from a normal spectre except for the amount of damage it can take. It is officially described as follows:
"If you 'liked' the Spectre, meet his tougher brother."
― PlayStation Doom instruction manual

"If you 'liked' the Spectre, you’ll love his big bad brother."
― Sega Saturn Doom instruction manual

- Nightmare spectres were featured in the Doom 64 TC, despite not appearing in Doom 64 itself. They were given 500 HP instead of 300.
- Nightmare imps were also present in a press-release beta version of the PlayStation game but were removed. They later returned in Doom 64.
