Osterity is a vanilla compatible 8-level PWAD for Doom II created by Big Ol' Billy. Development began in February, 2021, and the first version was released on July 12, 2024. The RC2 version was released on July 22, 2024. The PWAD makes extensive use of the OTEX texture pack by Ola Björling (ukiro). The PWAD contains an original soundtrack also by Big Ol' Billy.
A DeHackEd patch in the PWAD includes replacements for all the monsters of Doom II, inspired by monsters from Doom.
Osterity was named one of the winners at the 2024 Cacowards.
Content[edit]
Osterity includes an optional palette-swapping PWAD, which contains custom PLAYPAL and COLORMAP lumps.
Custom monsters[edit]
- Nightmare imp
- A partially invisible imp. It replaces the impaled human (thing 25).
- Zombie cowboy
- A faster-firing zombieman wearing a cowboy outfit. It replaces the Wolfenstein SS.
- Zombie scientist
- Three variants, equipped with either a crowbar, axe, or knife. They replace the dead demon, dead lost soul, and dead imp respectively (things 21, 23, and 20).
- Fire baron
- An orange baron of Hell with horns pointed up and prominent bat wings. It hurls a spread of five fireballs, rather than one projectile at a time. It replaces the Hell knight.
- Hell gremlin
- A green imp-like gremlin that hurls yellow fireballs, which can be either unguided or homing. It replaces the revenant.
- Green skull cube
- A spinning black cube with green skulls embossed on it. It rapidly swerves left and right and fires cacodemon projectiles. It replaces the mancubus.
- Spider mechamind
- An arachnotron with green eyes, six articulated hydraulic legs, and a chaingun. It replaces the arachnotron.
- Infernal eye
- A reversed evil eye candle. It is stationary and periodically spawns lost souls. It replaces the pain elemental.
- Vile spirit
- A mote of green flame that rolls across the ground. It rapidly damages the player when touched and can resurrect dead monsters. It replaces the arch-vile.
- Hellspine
- A long, stationary skeletal monster which occasionally fires red projectiles from one of its spine bones. It replaces Commander Keen.
