Overboard is a 15-level Boom-compatible megawad, made by Cyriak Harris (mouldy) and first uploaded on August 4, 2022. The mapset consists of "6 maps of island-hopping mayhem" and an outro map, followed by a "New Game Plus" mode that features increased-difficulty versions of each of the six maps, along with some tweaks, plus a second outro map.
The PWAD begins with Doomguy on holiday in the tropics aboard a cruise ship that gets invaded by demons. The maps are all comparatively short in size, with a medium difficulty level, which increases considerably for the "New Game Plus" mode. The WAD also makes interesting use of its three built-in demos as a way of story-telling, serving as both a prologue of sorts to the WAD itself, as well as teasing the secret map, which itself can only be reached by warping to it.
The PWAD contains an original soundtrack by Cyriak, reminiscent of his earlier work in Going Down.
A DeHackEd patch is included that, among other things, makes some minor changes to the gameplay, namely decreasing the pistol's firing cycle time by 30% (or an increased firing rate of about 43%) compared to the regular Doom II pistol, as well as canceling out one of the two frames in the chainsaw's idle animation. Overboard makes extensive use of the cc4-tex texture pack, while also containing several custom graphics.
The mapset was uploaded to the idgames archive on September 11, 2022, and received a Cacoward in December.
