Project Osiris is a project to recreate the Amiga game Alien Breed 3D on the GZDoom engine in the form of a total conversion, spearheaded by ArcturusDeluxe. The project aims to faithfully port all of the levels, graphics, sounds and game behavior to GZDoom, whilst also offering a slew of enhancements and improved graphics over what was possible in the Amiga original.
Project Osiris was first publicly announced on the ZDoom forums on 28 February 2020, with Arcturus Deluxe announcing his intention to port over the game after witnessing a few failed attempts to do so in the previous years (most notably one for the Odamex port). After meticulously porting over the levels and graphics from the original game, utilizing previous conversion work from the QBreed project,[1] several improvements were carried out, including: graphical touch-ups to the spritework and textures, new rotational angles for enemy sprites, new and improved sound effects, a brand new soundtrack composed by ArcturusDeluxe himself (under his musician alias Null Divisor), the ability to use the CD32 soundtrack by Bjørn Lynne (Dr Awesome), three different difficulty levels, and a host of other improvements. Version 1.0 was finally released on April 16, 2021, after almost two years of development. Project Osiris comes with a bundled copy of a renamed GZDoom, but is fully supported otherwise by the engine itself in the form of an .ipk3 (same as an IWAD, only using the PK3 format instead). Because versions of ZDoom to the Amiga are quite outdated and do not support the latest features afforded by GZDoom, the latter port was chosen to support the original's singular feature of room-over-rooms.[2]
The latest version of Project Osiris is 1.0.3, released on May 11, 2021. A derived project has been initiated to convert over Alien Breed 3D II: The Killing Grounds.[3][4]
