RealDOOM is a source port of Doom for DOS running in Real Mode, by sqpat. It targets 16-bit processors such as the Intel 8088 and 286.

Features[edit]

It supports Doom, and Doom II, but not Final Doom.

History[edit]

The first release was version 0.1, released on December 4, 2023. It had no sound, save games, credits and screen wipe. It crashed on E1M6. With version 0.11, released on December 12, fixing various rendering bugs, as well as fixing the issue with E1M6, having the shareware be first supported IWAD.

Released on January 11, 2024, version 0.15 fixed the screen wipe, credits and intermission rendering issues.

Released on May 23, 2024, version 0.20 added support for Doom II and the commercial version of Doom, with 0.20b having minor improvements and releasing on May 28.

Released on June 18, 2024 version 0.21 started optimizing the code for Assembly, stating it had a 35-70% performance improvement over 0.20b. Version 0.22, released August 19, 2024 continuing to add optimizations, as well as bug fixes.
