Reality
From DoomWiki.org
Reality is a style of Doom play invented by Benjamin Lauterbach (Cowboy). In a Reality demo the player is not allowed to take any damage (since being shot in real life would kill you), and under its originally devised ruleset, the player was also not allowed to use the plasma gun nor BFG9000 (since these weapons do not exist). Because of these restrictions, it is impossible to complete a map in a Reality run if taking damage is unavoidable, while maps with high numbers of hitscan enemies become very difficult and potentially luck-dependent.
The first Reality demos were collected by Thomas Pilger (Panter), who ran a website collecting Doom II speedruns in this style. On harder maps he additionally accepted demos on difficulty levels lower than Ultra-Violence. Reality demos are currently submittable to DSDA, with the only requirement for acceptance being the player takes no damage, having no restriction on using the plasma rifle and BFG. Compet-n however, never held Reality as a standard competition category.
