Realm of Chaos 2: The Revenge of '96! is a 40-level megawad for Doom II designed for Boom-compatible source ports. It was created by a team led by Rob Berkowitz (DocBob) and Steve Duff as a sequel to the 1996 megawad Realm of Chaos, which Rob Berkowitz and Steve Duff had both worked on.
The project was first announced on the Doomworld forums on November 1, 2021, with the first release following on November 1, 2024.
The mapset comes with a bespoke soundtrack and is described in the release thread as follows: "The style of this megawad is oldschool with occasional fashion-forward maps. The mix is eclectic, similar to the original RoC, with broadly defined episode themes. Difficulty ranges from mild to challenging, especially in the episode-ending maps."
Realm of Chaos 2 was a runner-up at the 2024 Cacowards.

Custom content[edit]
The mod makes use of an embedded DeHackEd patch to create two custom enemies and an ambient sound source. The WAD file also contains custom PLAYPAL, COLORMAP, and ENDOOM lumps, as well as five Boom colormaps. Addtionally, UMAPINFO, ZMAPINFO, MUSINFO, ANIMATED, SWITCHES, COMPLVL, GAMEINFO, DECALDEF, GLDEFS, and DECORATE lumps are also included as well as a custom status bar.
The sprites of several items in the game have been modified slightly and muzzle flashes of weapons, the tip and fire trail of rockets, the BFG's plasma, and the mancubus fireballs have been recolored blue.
- Doppelguy
- An evil marine with 100 hit points that uses a hitscan attack similar to that of the chaingunner, though at a slightly lower rate of fire. It moves at half the speed of the original from Scythe 2 and has a 100% pain chance, but is used in large numbers when encountered. It replaces the Wolfenstein SS.
- Shred key
- A giant, floating red skull key with 3000 hit points that fires mancubus projectiles. It cannot be stunlocked and uses the A_KeenDie code pointer in its death animation, triggering all sectors with the tag 666 to open up. It replaces Commander Keen.
