Replacement IWADs

Replacement IWADs are projects with the specific intent to replace one or more of the standard IWADs of Doom engine games in a manner compatible with existing modifications, allowing one to essentially play the game with an entirely different "skin".

Many of the projects listed are licensed under permissive licenses, such as the modifed BSD license, with The People's Doom being notable exemption, which is freeware. Freedoom has received the most focus, being the most compatible and complete of them.

Freedoom has been forked for several projects; Freedom Scoops, a IWAD replacement for Chex Quest; GZFreePunk, which makes use of GZDoom exclusive features; and Satanic Infestation, which intends to be closer to Doom's hellish theme. As well minor parts or discarded attic assets being used in other projects, like in Blasphemer and Lästermaul where some Freedoom sprites are used (with some proposed for use in Animosity).

Placement here is by mission; if a modification intends to implement a new, original game with its own incompatible themes, it should be placed in standalone games only.
