Rocket Launcher is a GUI frontend created by Hypnotoad. It was originally released on May 28, 2013, as a Windows-only launcher application meant to be an alternative to the popular ZDL launcher. Much like ZDL, Rocket Launcher sports a simplistic and straightforward interface, allowing most options to be set without utilizing sub-menus or other windows. It also includes some additional features, such as:
- More ergonomic design, including a box listing all of your patch WADs allowing you to quickly add them to load in the engine of your choosing.
- An "Include Skulltag Data Files" checkbox for the Zandronum source port.
- Displays the associated logo for each identified engine.
- Integrated DOSBox support, automatically loading the game with the correct aspect ratio, desired skill and command line parameters, and attempting to load any additional specified files.
Hypnotoad would continue working on the launcher over the following months, until development paused and resumed on September 19, 2014, with the release of version 1.7, bringing in additional bugfixes and new features. Development would then stall again until Hypnotoad announced a restart of the project as Rocket Launcher 2.0, released on April 6, 2016. Besides a reworked UI and a host of new features, Rocket Launcher 2.0 also introduced cross-platform support, and the source code was released publicly on GitHub.
