The rune trial temple is one of three special levels in Doom (2016) which are used for rune trials. It consists of a stone brick structure with many pillars, long hallways, stairs, and a few small square rooms which are decorated with chains, sigil-bearing banners, and lattices of metallic bars. There is a fatal fall zone near the stairs which transition to the highest elevation, of which the player must stay aware. The rune trial temple plays host to the majority of the rune trials and sees a wide variety of game play situations within it as a result.

Rune trials[edit]
The following rune trials take place in the rune trial temple:

Ammo Boost | Use the super shotgun to eliminate 30 unwilling before the timer expires. Trial begins with 6 seconds. Kills add 2 seconds and glory kills add 4 seconds. |
Seek and Destroy | Use the heavy assault rifle to weaken and perform Death from Above glory kills on 3 Hell knights before the timer expires. Trial begins with 30 seconds. Each glory kill adds 20 seconds. |
Armored Offensive | Use the combat shotgun to eliminate all targets before the timer expires. Health levels are critical. Use armor to survive. Trial begins with 70 seconds. No additional time is awarded. |

Strategies[edit]
Seek and Destroy[edit]
To perform the proper glory kill on the Hell knights, either drop down toward them from a higher ledge or do a double jump from the same level and press the glory kill key or button while you are in mid-air and above the Hell knight.
Blood Fueled[edit]
It is best to stay near the center of the level as much as possible, as you can become stranded and unable to move if you stray too far toward the perimeter, ending up with no available targets at which to fire in order to regain time. When multiple enemies spawn near each other or form groups, it is best to favor movement in their direction in order to reap the largest reward for eliminating them.
Rich Get Richer[edit]
This is arguably the most difficult rune trial, and one of the most difficult challenges in the entire game. The unmastered rocket launcher with the non-upgraded remote detonation mod does lackluster damage, and more importantly, you have no immunity to your own blast radius damage, so extreme care is needed to avoid taking self-damage. A variety of enemies spawn in, including Hell knights and two pinkies, the latter being extremely difficult to handle with the rocket launcher while avoiding the extreme damage they can do to the unarmored Doom Slayer.
There is little strategy available other than to practice the trial repeatedly until it is mastered. Avoid enemy fire by strafing, keep a distance from enemies, and avoid contact with Hell knights and pinkies at all costs. Use the remote detonation mod if your shots go wide or if enemies unexpectedly dodge, but remember not to detonate rockets too close to yourself at the same time.
Saving Throw[edit]
While similar in premise to Rich Get Richer, this trial is significantly easier due to the power of the Gauss cannon and differences in the enemies which show up. The greatest threat are two spectres which will spawn in as part of the final wave of monsters, but remember that spectres lack the frontal shield of their pinky cousins and thus the Gauss cannon can simply be fired directly into their faces when they attempt to charge. Being conscious of ammo use is important during this trial. Head for pickups when you are at a moderate level and do not allow yourself to run out completely.
