STR16: Frozen is the sixteenth map of Stronghold: On the Edge of Chaos. It was designed by Daniel Gimmer (Tormentor667) and uses the music track "Protectors" by Ari Pulkkinen, from Shadowgrounds.

This level introduces the "Limit" mode, where the objective is to keep too many monsters from reaching the deadline.

Walkthrough[edit]

Essentials[edit]

Before the level starts, you will be briefed by Lt. Carmack on the essentials of Limit mode. This mode is similar to Deadline, but you can allow a maximum of 100 monsters to reach the deadline - the mission fails if this limit is exceeded.

As you start the level you will see two red pads in front of you - these are the deadlines you need to protect. All the item pads can be found in this area (including two health and two ammo pads), as well as a chaingun and a super shotgun. Head north through an open door to find a teleporter which will send you to the south end of the level - this is ideal for intercepting monsters coming from that direction but it is a one-way trip. Continue heading north from the teleporter room to enter a wide hall with green forcefields - a backpack and a rocket launcher can be found in this hall, along with three more ammo pads and two more health pads.

Monsters will initially spawn at the south end of the level, heading north-east and north-west to follow two paths leading inside the building - they will then head north around the forcefields, then turn round and head south to reach the deadlines. On wave four a gate will open at the north end of the level and monsters will start spawning from behind it, and on wave six the forcefields will be deactivated giving monsters spawning from the south a shorter path to the deadline.

This level pits you against large numbers of monsters - have powerups ready if you find yourself being overwhelmed. This level offers large numbers of stimpacks and medikits so retreat if you are close to death. Focus on weaker opponents first; if all else fails, it is better to let a few strong enemies pass through the deadline rather than many smaller monsters.
