STRIFE1.WAD is the IWAD used by Strife.

Latest version of Strife[edit]

Versions 1.2-1.31 use the same IWAD, and the only difference between the versions is in the game executable, STRIFE1.EXE. It is 28,377,364 bytes in size, is dated 1996-05-23, and contains 3,985 entries. It has the following hashes:

Older versions[edit]

There is some confusion over whether the first registered version of the game should be labeled as 1.0 or 1.1, due to inconsistencies included in the game's files.

However, the marker in demo lumps identifying an engine version is set to the value 101, a way to indicate version 1.1. Version 1.0 of the engine was only bundled with the teaser demo with an accompanying STRIFE0.WAD.

Differences[edit]

List of known differences between versions 1.1 and 1.31 of the STRIFE1.WAD:

  • ENDSTRF: Velocity Incorporated phone number was changed;
  • LOG1011: power crystal mission tip was changed to mention the merchants whom the player can visit;
  • LOG1010: sewer flamethrower tip changed to better word where the reclamation tank is;
  • SCRIPT02, SCRIPT17, and SCRIPT23: some of the medic related dialogue was reworded;
  • checksums of all levels are different, however only a few show any byte size differences;
  • TITLEPIC: two dots were added next to the words "INC" and "RESERVED";
  • backgrounds were added to the P_ARRRG1 and P_ARRRG2 switch patches, previously they were transparent.
