This mod was a runner-up for the 2013 Cacowards on Doomworld! |
Stomper is a megawad for Doom II, created by Pawel Zarczynski (NMN). It was created for Boom-compatible source ports, and was initially released as a demo in 2012. However, due to lack of time, NMN eventually shelved the project in 2013 and released it in its unfinished state, with some of the maps incomplete or devoid of monsters: even so, the project's ambitious design earned it a spot as a runner-up in the 2013 Cacowards. Some of Stomper's graphics and a few maps originate from another mod NMN was working on, R-One, which remains unreleased.
A year later, Przemek Zimny (alterworldruler), who had previously worked alongside NMN on Soulcrusher, began working on a finished version of the megawad with NMN's permission. While this attempt itself remained unfinished as a MAP20 contribution by Xaser never ended up getting released, it was still offered on the Doomworld forums as Beta 2 in 2015 and remains the most complete version of the mod to date. The unique weapon sprites and sounds were also split into a separate file, and a new final boss, the "rogue cyborg" with 6666 hit points, was added. However, the map names in the DEHACKED lump, which are visible on the automap, still pertain to older unfinished releases, and are ignored here.
