Talk:Compet-n

In my opinion this should be renamed to Compet-n, as the official name is COMPET-N, all upper case. The case is similar to the DOOM/Doom question, and Compet-N is the equivalent of DooM. Who is like God? 21:31, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

That would affect many articles, as you can see.  I agree that it seems inconsistent to allow a random PWAD author from 1995 to choose his/her own capitalization, but not id or a decade-old community portal.  That part of the policy was before my time, however, so you'd have to ask Fredrik why he thought we should do what Wikipedia does.    Ryan W 16:41, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Articles can be fixed over time, and the task is eased by using the search feature. I'll be doing it myself (especially in any case where I propose the change). I think Fredrik's policy is reasonable for readability purposes and general editing practices (though I've still not put enough thought to the use of all-caps for lump names), he just misapplied it in regard to COMPET-N, which is just a shortening of "competition" for the DOS era (8 characters max), thus -itio- is missing and the N is just the last letter of the word/name. Its gone[edit]

Compet-n has been down for a few days. Is it gone? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.38.53.195 (talk)

It seems OK from here at the moment. --Quasar (talk) 19:11, 26 April 2019 (CDT)

Compet-N will be gone this Summer[edit]

I post this to err on the side of caution...

We (that is, Quasar and me) are aware, some exchanges with fx already took place to look at options for preserving the site. --Xymph (talk) 14:07, 9 January 2022 (CST)
