Controversy[edit]
As I remember, there was loads of controversy with it, I think to do with source code not being available, which resulted in fly leaving in disgrace/disgust. Jdowland 17:36, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)
There certainly was. As far as I know, Tom Robinson (mystican) complained to Fly, as well as John Carmack, about the source code initially not being released, as the port was under the GPL. He also orchestrated the takeover of the #csdoom channel on EFNet as well. Version 0.62 (I think) of csDoom, which included a source release, gave notice to a few unscrupulous lines of code, such as ones to give Fly rcon access on any server, and a few hardcoded IP bans, one of which corresponded to Tom Robinson's IP address. Eventually, NightFang (who went on to create ZDaemon) made the "Black csDoom Launcher" that could crash csDoom servers. It was really all one big lump of drama. Bloodshedder 22:57, 5 Apr 2005 (EDT)
- ah yes, the takeover, I remember that much. He pretended to be me in order to get ops! Jdowland 05:08, 6 Apr 2005 (EDT)
Correct name note[edit]
Instead of having that note on top, isn't it possible to do what the Wikipedia did with id Software? They have some sort of lowercase template to do it. Can't it be imported? It would be useful for any other proper names commonly or officially starting with lower case. Who is like God? 15:50, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
