Talk:DECORATE

From DoomWiki.org

this article should clearly indicate that there is one DECORATE lump per WAD (or PK3 -- if that's actually true) as oppose to per-map or whatever. -- Shambler (talk) 09:08, 13 May 2018 (CDT)

ping[edit]

Can someone approve the revision I made a few days ago? Also, there are pending changes at Doom community jargon worth approving. --PhilthyPhilistine (talk) 12:13, 9 January 2022 (CST)

There is no need to leave ping's - especially on such short notice. I did look upon your suggested changes, i am not going to interfere: The community jargon one, for example, this one - https://doomwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Doom_community_jargon&oldid=293879&diff=cur - is very much a rephrasing rather than an enhancement. I leave it upon more seasoned Wiki editors to decide any ruling on this. --Redneckerz (talk) 12:22, 9 January 2022 (CST)
Bandwidth for reviews is limited and sometimes things fall through the cracks for a bit; but doing this generally only increases my workload as an admin. --Quasar (talk) 12:58, 9 January 2022 (CST)
I figured as much, but since these GZ-related matters have been a hot topic in recent days, this seemed like a good time for a ping. --PhilthyPhilistine (talk) 13:02, 9 January 2022 (CST)
Pings within days are never a good idea. Just. Don't. Recent Changes is hard enough to keep up with already in recent months. --Xymph (talk) 13:13, 9 January 2022 (CST)
They are only a hot topic because there is an interest in micro-debating an aspect of GZDoom. There are other, undocumented aspects regarding GZDoom that haven't being added yet that serve a greater and more informational purpose. --Redneckerz (talk) 13:22, 9 January 2022 (CST)

To be honest, I do not like this change. It keeps bringing in slightly off-topic points (what do you feel it is so important to point out in every single tangentially-related article that ZDoom was discontinued in 2017? Do we need to put in every tangentially Boom-related article the precision that Boom was discontinued in 1999?) and IMO kind of muddles things up. E.g. in the previous revision the forks and the other ports that adopted some aspect of it are clearly separated, here it's a single sentence except for Eternity. Finally "officially deprecated" is not really an accurate depiction, because deprecation in general parlance means that people are discouraged from using it, which is not at all the case. A more accurate statement would be that there is simply no plan to add further DECORATE-specific extensions. --Gez (talk) 12:32, 9 January 2022 (CST)

How is ZDoom being discontinued in any way off-topic? Read the first sentence of the article - DECORATE was made in ZDoom. Now ZDoom is no more, but DECORATE lives on in other ports. It's all very relevant and should be in this article. If you want to add additional info about no more plans to expand DECORATE, that would be good too. --PhilthyPhilistine (talk) 12:39, 9 January 2022 (CST)
I made some changes just now, but if they end up not being to consensus liking feel free to further edit. --Quasar (talk) 12:58, 9 January 2022 (CST)
The only concern I have with your changes is saying DECORATE is "partially eclipsed" by ZScript, which is not entirely consistent with what that article states. But this involves technical details I don't know. Just pointing it out. --PhilthyPhilistine (talk) 13:01, 9 January 2022 (CST)
There is always some leeway in how sentences are formulated. The Doom Wiki is a Wiki, but it isn't Wikipedia. There is a fine line between factual correctness, and being pedantic. --Redneckerz (talk) 13:20, 9 January 2022 (CST)
