Talk:Editing tutorials

From DoomWiki.org

here are some tutorials on editing. Maybe we could get permission from Doomworld to use them here. If not, they at least give some interesting ideas for things to write up. Fraggle 09:48, 23 Jan 2005 (PST)

The true 3D bridges in that tutorial are well worth inserting (ah... if they work in most source ports); there's a 3D lift variation as well. I remember being suitably wowed when I saw them both.

This person seems to have done an awful lot of work trying to help everybody learn how to edit when DEU 5.0 first came out.  (Hmm, maybe he should have an article himself; apparently he did some porting work too, and helped program an early node builder.)    Ryan W 01:29, February 20, 2010 (UTC)

Tutorials[edit]

We have several tutorials now. They're good but some need major style cleanups. It would be nice if each tutorial could have:

  • Screenshots
  • A demo wad showing the particular technique in use

Also, I've been thinking a bit about guidelines for writing these things. It seems to me that we should make the articles be editor agnostic - so people can use the techniques regardless of what editor they use. For example, I think we should write "how to make a 3D floor" rather than "how to make a 3D floor in WadAuthor". If necessary, we can perhaps add short tutorials on how to get started using particular editors.

Fraggle, I'm attempting to give this section a sense of organization. "Editing" looks better than "Editing tutorials" (to my eye), and I hope to have the section include more than tutorials. For example, a list of valid linedefs isn't a tutorial in and of itself, but would be important editing data, and can link to actual tutorials.

Also, I'd agree with editor-neutral tutorials and example wads. I'll be working to clear this section up as much as possible.

I'm also going to attempt to get as much editing info on the more popular sourceports as I can, and place it here in the wiki. Giomancer 18:36, 23 Feb 2005 (GMT)

secondary fire weapons[edit]

um.... hi im ipaqmaster , i just signed up here cause i love doom and ivve been modding for about a week n a half now

im not sure if im in the right section or soz *sorry if im not lol *

but i dont know how to make the seccondary fire of a weapon use ammo

eg

my railgun uses 5 cells on shot

but seccondary fire does the same etc but it uses no ammo (but still shows amount left)

does anyone know the code and where to put it?

if so can someone post it in the tutorial secion or something

thankyou very much :D

Ludicrously fast texture scrolling[edit]

Should this be included here?  It is a vanilla trick (e.g. the chaingunner alcoves near the spiderdemon on Plutonia 05).  See the technical explanation here.    Ryan W 04:11, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
