Doom legacy, PrBoom[+] or Edge work in Linux too. Ducon 08:50, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

External links[edit]

At this current moment the majority of the page is the external links section, it is getting really excessive. 2A12:A800:2:1:185:241:208:204 23:30, 15 December 2024 (CST)

Seconding this. The majority of these links don't even belong here and should be either removed completely or moved to corresponding source port/editor pages. --Nockson (talk) 02:04, 16 December 2024 (CST)
Pruned - it's not the first time this happened... --Xymph (talk) 04:10, 16 December 2024
I have now re-constituted the database entries as inline citations, which I was considering doing anyway, and I consolidated the emulation/compatibility links into one section. Please let me know if this is acceptable, or if anyone has any other suggestions. Apologies for the mess. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 23:29, 16 December 2024 (CST)
I disagree with the re-addition. The Linux Game Book links just repeat information already in the source port articles, and there is no reason for the Wine AppDB and ProtonDB past the main Doom games (if at all). The article is again mostly the links you edited in. 185.220.103.5 23:43, 16 December 2024 (CST)
Excessive linkification and/or citification do not serve this wiki's mission. Ask Quasar remarked, this is not Wikipedia (where such linkfests of specialist details would be unacceptable too, btw). Please exercise more restraint going forward. --Xymph (talk) 02:36, 17 December 2024 (CST)
In my opinion, the main problem here is not the number of links, but their uselessness. References are usually used to prove some statements. What are they prove here, that these ports and editors work on Linux? Such information should be placed in the ports/editors pages, and even then it should link directly to readme from the code repository instead of some unrelated website. --Nockson (talk) 03:10, 17 December 2024 (CST)
There is clearly a major philosophical difference here from the way I run my own wikis, which values Internet preservation and acting as a web clearinghouse. Obviously I will accede to to the majority and will mind the culture going forward. Technopeasant1994 (talk) 08:10, 17 December 2024 (CST)
