Talk:Screen melt

From DoomWiki.org

I'm on a broadband connection, so this doesn't affect me: however, the thumbnail of the animation alone is 300k (the full version is 600k). Would it be sensible to have a static image on the page with a link to the full animation? Fraggle 19:14, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

it is not present in any current GL source ports   No, you can do it in PrBoom+.  Or is that some kind of emulation?    Ryan W 22:36, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Prboom+ uses glCopyTexSubImage2D to make the read buffer available as a texture, then draws the texture as a bunch of thin vertical strips which it can nudge down on an individual basis. See [1]. While it would be accurate to say that the implementation in Prboom+ gl mode is not using raster graphic manipulation to accomplish its goals, it is the same wipe in the end. Maybe "emulation" is a good way of putting it; achieving the exact same effect with much different code. 71.58.109.233 01:36, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
The latest version of EDGE has the screen melt effect as well. Fraggle 07:45, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
