Redesign of 2014-07-08[edit]

I noticed that not only did the template just look bad on articles, with Final boss spilling over a line, it was also generating invalid HTML by splitting a div tag across table cells (two block level elements cannot overlap as such). I took advantage of this, together with earlier complaints about the lower-casing of article titles looking bad, and the pressing need to add parameters to the Prettynavbar template, to come up with this redesign. I would appreciate comments and can make compromises if necessary.

If this design or a compromise based on it is acceptable, I'll redesign the rest of the navbar style templates to match it. --Quasar (talk) 01:54, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

Looks fine to me. --Gez (talk) 07:47, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm liking it a lot. --Kyano (talk) 13:07, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
I think it looks great.  Two side remarks: the "spilling over" depends on one's font size, screen resolution, etc. (it wasn't doing that for me).  Also, I don't remember the capitalized/uncapitalized issue being settled, but I hope I'm wrong because it was such a lame thing to argue over.  :>   I personally prefer them capitalized, and for navboxes specifically, I think it helps usability by making neighboring links look more separated.    Ryan W (talk) 09:01, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
I feel it's a separate issue than when they occur within articles. Like for example I wouldn't agree that "imp" should be capitalized everywhere as it's not a title nor a scientific genus nor a proper name. Baron of Hell is a tricky one because Baron is a title and is almost always capitalized in use (ala "John Doe, 1st Baron of Worchestershire"). But within these templates, the links aren't just naming the monster as you would in a prose passage, but are listing the titles of the articles, which should ideally match their style on the article, or at the least be consistent. You are correct it wasn't necessarily settled with regard to the navboxes but I suppose I am pressing the issue with this redesign as I agree with you that it looks better with at least initial caps. So far I don't see any objections so I'll probably move ahead and make the rest of the article-bottom navboxes consistent with this one - initial cap links, multiple lines where needed to look good, centered, and with the NavbarTools added for easy access to the template. I may add the tools to some other (non-article-bottom) navboxes too where they can fit without blowing up the layout. --Quasar (talk) 14:21, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Baron is a title, but also a generic noun. Here, look at the "References in classic literature" box. You have "under the name of Baron Rivar" and "I am the Baron D'Evignon" where it is used as a title and capitalized, and "said the baron to the duke" where it isn't used a title and not capitalized. Baron of Hell isn't a title (since there are a lot of the buggers, it's obvious that Hell isn't a single barony). --Gez (talk) 14:50, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
