The Enigma Episode is a nine-level WAD created by Jim Flynn. The maps featured in the episode were originally released separately for Doom; Flynn collected them and remastered them for Doom II to make Enigma. The originals are also available on the archives, some under different names.
The Enigma episode makes heavy use of puzzles and tough gameplay. Most of the puzzles are designed around hidden walls or hard-to-reach switches, with a strong emphasis in exploration and backtracking. The majority of maps are also of big size, with intricate areas, movable platforms, large mazes and gigantic architecture. The author also uses most of the Doom 2 repertoire of enemies in very tight spaces and high numbers, making the maps challenging to a certain degree.
All the individual maps appear as separate files on Maximum Doom.
As part of their 10 Years of Doom feature, Doomworld named it one of the Top 100 WADs of All Time from 1995.
