The Joy of Mapping (often abbreviated to JoM) is a series of megawad projects for the GZDoom source port, spearheaded by James Paddock (Jimmy) and inspired by the television series, The Joy of Painting. Similar to speedmapping series like the Abyssal Speedmapping Sessions, The Joy of Mapping is an organised event that typically takes place over the course of a few days, with an emphasis on helping newer level designers develop their skills. The projects are co-ordinated over Discord, and often group maps into themed episodes. A number of users in the Discord server are designated tutors, who are on hand during the mapping period to help other participants. Outside of the events, the server also sees frequent activity, and is regarded as a useful hub for newer mappers at any time. Maps submitted to The Joy of Mapping can be of any map format that is supported by GZDoom. As of May 2019, there have been six events, with a combined total of 223 levels.
