The Old Bean Factory is a single-level PWAD for Doom II designed for limit removing source ports, created by kwc. It was first released on March 29, 2022. The final version was uploaded to the idgames archive on April 16, 2022. It uses the music track "CCCool" by Lee Jackson, from Rise of the Triad.

Content

The WAD includes a custom PLAYPAL lump and status bar. The blue keycard was replaced by the beans. The demon sprites have been recolored to gray.

Walkthrough

Letters in italics refer to marked spots on the map. Sector, thing, and linedef numbers in boldface are secrets which count toward the end-of-level tally.

Secrets

1. Enter the northeast building and use the north crate, opening a wall to the south with shotgun guys. Afterwards, enter the south room and use the north switch, lowering the crate next to you. Enter the vent shaft and return to the first room, going on the crates at the south wall. From here, jump to the wall with shotgun guys to get this secret. Open the left wall (or shoot the south wall to open it) to get a soul sphere. (sector 1173)
2. By lowering the crate in the south room of the northeast building and entering the shaft, a new wall in the first room opens up to the north. Go there and into the lava. Run all the way east and through the lavafall to pick up a backpack. (sector 365)
3. In the south room of the northeast building, use the south computer to open the windows. Head west of that computer, then face south. Jump south through the window and towards the closed window to the south, which will open as you jump. Once inside the next building, enter the west vent to get two medikits and an energy cell pack. (sector 1515)
4. In the center of the city, get on the container north of the bean factory entrance, then jump southeast to the crates. Enter the vent to get health bonuses, armor bonuses, and an energy cell. At the dead end, shoot the switch west of the vent to find more health and armor bonuses. (sector 5090)
5. In the northwest hall, jump into the top of the fountain to get an energy cell pack. (sector 2771)
6. Northwest of Secret #5 are five phone booths. You need to use the phone booths in a specific order. Start with the middle one, then the one to the left of it. Use the rightmost one next, then the leftmost one. Finally, use the second phone booth from the right, then quickly run east, up the steps, then north into the shop Guns on the Go. This has weapons, ammo, health bonuses, stimpacks, a medikit, and a megaarmor. The switch on the back counter accesses the shooting range. (sector 2512)
7. West of Secret #5 is the subway lobby. Climb the rubble at the north end, then jump to the block to the south. This lowers the north portion of an identical block further to the south. Run there and ride up to get an energy cell. (sector 2420)
8. At the west side of the subway tracks, flip the switch and enter the maze section. You will find shotgun shells, a berserk pack, a soul sphere, health bonuses, a green armor, a box of shotgun shells, and a box of ammo. (sector 3213)
9. In the yellow key hall, enter the southernmost room. Use the north shelf to access a vent into the next room, which has a chainsaw, ammo, armor bonuses, and a berserk pack. (sector 5179)

Bugs

An imp (thing 1411) has no flags set for any of the three difficulty classes, so it does not actually appear in the level. It is at the same spot as a baron of Hell on skills 3-5, so probably was intended to appear on skills 1-2.

Trivia

• The name of the WAD is a reference to the film Terror in Beverly Hills in which multiple characters refer to the terrorist's hideout as "The Old Bean Factory" without giving any actual address.
