History[edit]
When and how the Old One arrived on Argent D'Nur from the Cosmic Realm is not known, and may predate the rise of the Sentinels. At some point in their history, the Sentinels and the Wraiths were able to subdue the Old One and imprison it beneath the Spire of Nerathul in the northern sea of Estvovia; how the being was subdued is unknown, but probably involved the ballistic force crossbow that was also stored in the prison. Other restraints that were used included massive metal chains, an enormous cage, and stasis devices.
Prince Ahzrak used the Old One as leverage in his search for the Heart of Argent, promising the Witch that he would release her god from captivity in exchange for her assistance. After Commander Thira and the Kreed Maykr were pulled into the Cosmic Realm, the Maykrs direct the Doom Slayer to Nerathul where he frees the Old One from its captivity and rides it into the other dimension to search for them. As the Slayer approaches the Temple of Lomarith, he is consumed by the Old One but manages to free himself from its body, killing the Old One in the process.
Following the Old One's death, Ahzrak recovers its body and revives it with cybernetic augmentations, binding it eternally to Hell's service. During the siege of the Castle of Elderax, the resurrected god is sent to battle the Slayer, but the Slayer defeats it using the Royal Atlan and kills it again by pulling off its head.

Trivia[edit]
- The Old One is based on the fictional Lovecraftian deity Cthulhu.
- The Old One being resurrected in a twisted form to serve Hell's purposes is not dissimilar to the creation of the Icon of Sin, which was formed using the heart of Commander Valen's deceased son.
- In cut voice lines, The Witch refers to The Old One as "The God of Chaos".[1]
