The Stagnant Demesne
From DoomWiki.org
The Stagnant Demesne is the second extra episode for Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders expansion.
In the episode, the player enters D'Sparil's home stronghold - the very pit from which he was spawned. Corvus seeks to find a way out, yet D'Sparil's personal guards are out to kill him. The fifth episode was designed to be the hardest episode of the game. Like The Ossuary and Thy Flesh Consumed from Ultimate Doom, the original release of this episode did not include an special intermission screen image showing the episode's map and the location of all levels, instead using a background tiled with the FLOOR16 flat. A map was added with the release of Heretic + Hexen.
Level themes feature recognizable elements from the three original episodes of the game. The first level contains an eruptive crater typical to Hell's Maw, the sixth one has a mosaic hall characteristic to The Dome of D'Sparil and level seven features a fortified city with its textures reminding the player of E1M5.
While The Stagnant Demesne reuses the blue sky from the third episode, the level music list is identical to the one in the second episode.
