The Underground Rats is a vanilla slaughter map for Doom II. Released in February 2021, it was designed by Roofi, as an homage to Hell Revealed II, whilst using, at most, 2000 linedefs. Aside from a custom sky by Brett Harrell (Mechadon), as well as a set of waterfall patches, it exclusively uses stock textures / flats. Finally, it utilises a MIDI piece by Petter Mårtensen (Thyrbse): "The Creeps."

Secrets[edit]
- At the west end, head to the block north of the blue key and use the north wall to find a switch. Use it and quickly run east, past the bridge, then northeast to a megaarmor. (sector 56)
- At the east side, enter the south U-shaped hall and at the west side, use the east wall that looks different. Take the lift up to get a green armor, a soul sphere, and a switch. (sector 260)
- Leave the easternmost part of the map and look north and get on the railing below. Follow it to energy cell packs and boxes of rockets. (sector 274)
Demo files[edit]
The release includes a separate demo file, ro_demo_3951.lmp. It requires Doom II v1.9 to be viewed and runs for 39:54.94 (83823 tics), showing off the level on Ultra-Violence.
