  • February 22 - The first episode of Mordeth called "The City of Babel" is uploaded to the /idgames archive. From that point on, there is no particular information about the rest of the WAD's release.
  • May 2 - Hell Revealed is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • May 11 - Chord NG, the third installment of the Chord series is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • June 15 - Dawn of the Dead, an episode replacement for Knee-Deep in the Dead is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • June 19 - The Talosian Incident is released.
  • June 24 - STRAIN, a partial conversion for Doom II is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • July 4 - Requiem is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • July 12 - GothicDM, a deathmatch exclusive WAD, is released.
  • August 2 - Hell's Eventide is uploaded to the /idgames archive.

  • January 19 - The Darkening is originally released.
  • March 27 - Venom is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • April 17 - Cyberdreams, a WAD focusing on killing Cyberdemons, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • April 30 - Run Buddy, one of the first WADs created for the Boom source port, is uploaded to the /idgames archive in its original state.
  • May 2 - GothicDM 2, the sequel to GothicDM, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • May 8 - Odessa 14 subtitled "Savage Morals", the final installment of the Odessa series, is uploaded to the /idgames archive in version 2.1.

  • July 24 - Phobos (WAD) is originally released.
  • July 30 - Dickie 10, the final installment of the Dickie series, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.

  • January 28 - Herian 2, originally released around 1999, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • February 3 - Containment Area is uploaded to the /idgames archive in version 1.1.
  • March 8 - The Darkening Episode 2, the sequel to The Darkening, is released in version 1.0.
  • March 17 - Demonfear, a compilation of six WADs created by Adam Windsor between 1995 and 1999, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • May 17 - Hell Factory is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • July 29 - Atomic Tomb is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • August 22 - Doomworld announces 10 Sectors, a competition to make the most interesting map for Doom II until September 22 with no more than the titular ten sectors.
  • September 5 - Chord 3, the last installment of the Chord Series, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • November 26 - A compilation of the best maps from the 10 Sectors competition is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • December 3 - Painful Evil is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • December 9 - KZDoom6 is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • December 21 - The Classic Episode is released in version 1.0.

  • February 26 - KZDoom7 is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • March 24 - Vrack 2 is originally released.
  • July 19 - Sin City is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • August 6 - The Darkest Hour, a total conversion based on Star Wars game Dark Forces, is released.
  • August 7 - Phobia is originally uploaded to the /idgames archive as a singular map. Later, in 2006, this map would become a part of the WAD titled Phobia - The Age under the title Despair.
  • October 4 - SlayeR (WAD) is finished in development.
  • October 29 - The Darkest Hour is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • October 31 - Doom Resurrection is released.
  • November 14 - Nuts.wad, created in just one day, is uploaded to the /idgames archive as a test WAD by B.P.R.D to see if he can safely upload his other project Equinox on this site.
  • November 21 - Equinox and Doom Resurrection are uploaded to the /idgames archive the same day.
  • December 6 - Null Space is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • December 14 - Vrack 2 is released in version B.
  • December 24 - Alien Vendetta is originally released.

  • January 18 - Revolution!, originally released around 2001, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • January 20 - The first preview demo of RTC-3057 is released.
  • January 28 - Space Station Omega is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • February 1 - The Brotherhood of Ruin is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • April 10 - Scythe is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • May 22 - Helpyourselfish is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • June 17 - Chosen is originally released. The following year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • June 22 - The original version of Doom Raider: Crypt of the Vile is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • July 1 - Initial release of the Doom 64 TC.
  • July 15 - MassMouth 2 is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • September 15 - Void is released, originally designed for ZDoom 2.0.48
  • December 10 - TeamTNT releases its first ZDoom-targeted mod, Daedalus: Alien Defense. The following year, it would be marked as an honorable mention in Cacowards 2004.
  • December 31 - Hell Revealed II is originally released. The following year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.

  • January 9 - Chosen is uploaded to the /idgames archive in version 1.33.
  • January 13 - Doomworld Forums 3 is uploaded to the /idgames archive. It would later receive the Mockaward for the best comedy WAD of the year in Cacowards 2004.
  • January 26 - Grove is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • January 29 - Batman Doom, originally released around 1999, is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • February 26 - Grove is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • May 28 - Deus Vult is released and uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would be marked as one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2004.
  • June 3 - Decade is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • July 3 - Action Doom is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • July 27 - The second preview demo of RTC-3057 is released, being the last preview of the WAD, before Team Future ceases the development sometime later. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • July 30 - The third version of 2002 A Doom Odyssey (originally released in 2002) is released.
  • August 8 - Tremor is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • August 14 - Tremor is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • August 29 - The first take of The Zdoom Community Project is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition
  • September 9 - Phobos Revisited is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • September 22 - Decade is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • September 27 - After being in development for nine years, Hellcore is finally released, being uploaded to the /idgames archive. It would later receive the Mordeth Award for the WAD/project with the longest development time in Cacowards 2004.
  • December 6 - Community Chest 2 is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that month, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2004 edition.
  • December 24 - Super Sonic Doom is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Earlier that month, it was marked as one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2004.
  • December 25 - Massmouthmas is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Earlier that month, it was marked as one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2004.

2005[edit]

  • January 23 - Graf Zahl, creator of GZDoom, releases a source modification called ZDOOM-COD.EXE, derived from ZDoom 2.0.96 that would allow to play Caverns of Darkness (from 2002) on ZDoom.
  • March 8 - Altar of Evil is originally released. Later that year, it would be marked as one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2005.
  • March 21 - Crimson Canyon is originally released. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition.
  • March 25 - Kama Sutra is originally released. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition along with Mockaward for the best comedy WAD of the year.
  • April 6 - Temple of Chaos 2 - Warped Reality is originally released. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition.
  • May 14 - HeDRoX is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition.
  • May 20 - Happy Time Circus is uploaded to the /idgames archive. It would later receive the What the Hell? award for the strangest WAD of the year in Cacowards 2005.
  • June 6 - Hi-Tech Hell 2 - Alien Tech is released.
  • June 7 - Scythe 2 is originally released. Despite missing three maps, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition later that year.
  • June 25 - Zen Dynamics, a WAD that tests the reloading mechanic before being officially supported in ZDoom and GZDoom source ports, is originally released. In the following year, it would be named one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2006.
  • June 26 - How Not To Be Seen!, a Doom machinima adaptation of Monty Python's sketch under the same name is originally released. In the following year, it would end up as one of the two WADs to receive the Mockaward for the best comedy WAD of the year in Cacowards 2006.
  • July 7 - Altar of Evil is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • July 18 - After six years of development, the sequel to Jägermörder 1 is finally finished under the title Jägermörder 2: Terra Nova. It would later receive the Mordeth Award for the WAD/project with the longest development time in Cacowards 2005.
  • August 11 - Operation Overlord is originally released. In the following year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition.
  • August 12 - An updated version of Void (designed for ZDoom 2.0.96) is released.
  • September 11 - Ni'mRoD - IXNAY on the HOMBRE is uploaded to the /idgames archive in an updated version that would allow the WAD to be played in GZDoom.
  • October 8 - Suspended in Dusk is originally released. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition.
  • October 11 - Total Control is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition.
  • October 25 - Simplicity is originally released. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition.
  • November 20 - For Whom the Bell Tolls is released. Later that year, it would be marked as one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2005.
  • November 25 - Congestion 1024 is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2005 edition.
  • December 26 - The Classic Episode, Part 2 is originally released. In the following year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition.
  • December 27 - IC2005 is uploaded to the /idgames archive. In the following year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition.

  • January 1 - Newdoom Community Project is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition.
  • January 2 - GZDoom version of Operation Overlord is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • January 8 - Newdoom Community Project is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • January 13 - How Not To Be Seen! is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • March 19 - Phobia - The Age is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition.
  • May 16 - Updated version of Newdoom Community Project is released, fixing many bugs.
  • June 15 - Oniria is originally released. Later that year, it would be named one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2006.
  • June 22 - Crucified Dreams, a deathmatch-exclusive MegaWAD, is originally released after over eight years of development. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition along with the Mordeth Award for the WAD/project with the longest development time.
  • June 25 - Version 2.5 of Zen Dynamics is released on the first anniversary of this WAD's release.
  • July 10 - Version 2.0 of the first take of the Zdoom Community Project is released.
  • July 19 - Oniria is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • July 23 - Version 2.1 of the first take of the Zdoom Community Project is released.
  • September 8 - GZDoom port of ZanZan, originally released around 2000 and requiring ZDoomGL (v1), is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • September 10 - Vae Victus 2 and the Foreverhood demo are released (the latter in version 1.0, which would later that year be rereleased with version 1.1). Later that year, both WADs would win Cacowards from the 2006 edition.
  • October 20 - Impossible: A New Reality is released. Later that year, it would receive the Escher Award in Cacowards 2006.
  • October 26 - Vae Victus 2 is rereleased in its updated version.
  • October 29 - Hellcore 2.0, the revamped version of the original Hellcore is released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition.
  • November 8 - Phocas Island 2 is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2006 edition.
  • November 18 - TurboCharged ARCADE! and Zen Dynamics are uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, the former WAD would end up as one of the two WADs to receive the Mockaward for the best comedy WAD of the year in Cacowards 2006.
  • December 6 - Version 1.2 of Oniria is released.
  • December 18 - Songs of the Damned is originally released. In the following year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.

2007[edit]

  • March 27 - Genesis of Descent is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.
  • June 2 - Initial release of Knee-Deep in ZDoom. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition along with the Mordeth Award for the WAD/project with the longest development time.
  • June 23 - The Dying End is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.
  • July 6 - It Only Gets Worse is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would receive the Mockaward at the 2007 Cacowards.
  • July 16 - Demons of Problematique is released and is later named a Cacowards runner-up.
  • August 1 - The Outer Darkness is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.
  • August 2 - Cheogsh is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.
  • September 7 - The updated version of Simplicity titled Ultimate Simplicity is released, featuring improved maps alongside the new episode, Director's Cut, containing maps from the original version with some scrapped ones.
  • September 9 - The Ultimate Torment and Torture, a collection of remastered maps from the Torment and Torture series made by Daniel Gimmer (Tormentor667) is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.
  • October 10 - Epic is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.
  • October 19 - Sine Die is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.
  • November 22 - Community Chest 3 is originally released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2007 edition.

  • January 11 - Eternal Doom IV: Return from Oblivion is officially released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2008 edition.
  • February 25 - Deus Vult II is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2008 edition.
  • March 10 - Community Is Falling 3 is originally released. Later that year, it would receive the Mockaward for the best comedy WAD of the year in Cacowards 2008.
  • August 12 - Björn Ostmann (Vader) releases two of his maps from ZPack (Thunderpeak Powerplant and Termination) as a standalone WAD titled Thunderpeak. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2008 edition.
  • August 24 - UAC Military Nightmare is uploaded to the /idgames archive.
  • August 26 - Remain 3 is originally released. Later that year, it would be named one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2008.
  • September 3 - XXXI CyberSky is originally released. Later that year, it would be named one of the runners-up in Cacowards 2008.
  • September 8 - Urban Brawl, a prequel game to Action Doom is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2008 edition.
  • October 1 - An updated version of Diaz: Last Hours of Purity (which was originally released earlier this year) is released as part of WildWeasel's Hits Collection. Later that year, it would receive an honorable mention under the This is my Boomstick section in Cacowards 2008.
  • October 18 - Gravity is officially released. Later that year, it would win one of the Cacowards of the 2008 edition.
  • November 15 - Graf Zahl releases a patch for Caverns of Darkness that would allow the WAD to be played using the regular ZDoom build.
  • December 27 - Version 1.1 of Knee-Deep in ZDoom is released, now making item rotation optional with a separate file to load with the main one.

  • June 16 - Version 1.2 of Knee-Deep in ZDoom is released, fixing incorrect character in the DECORATE definition that was causing errors in the recent (at the time) version of ZDoom.
  • July 27 - For the 10th anniversary of 2002 A Doom Odyssey, the fourth version is released, adding another level (new E3M5) while also reshuffling the positions of some of the original ones.
  • November 13 - Call of Dooty II: Green Ops is released. Later that year, it would receive the Mockaward at the 2012 Cacowards.
  • December 7 - Winter's Fury is first released. A few days later it would win the Cacoward at the 2012 Cacowards.

  • May 22 - John Romero's SIGIL is released in the form of limited editions, which began to ship on this date. On May 31, the WAD was released as a free download.
  • October 5 - DBP16: Cyb's Freaky Colonoscopy is released. Later that year, it would be selected as one of the runners-up at the 2019 Cacowards.
  • December 29 - Remastered version of Decade is released; compatible with GZDoom and containing an alternative mode called Clucking Hell.

  • January 18 - The first episode of Time Tripper is released. Later that year, it would be selected as one of the runners-up at the 2021 Cacowards.
  • April 15 - The first episode of URE2020: Unexpected Retro Experience is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would be selected as one of the runners-up at the 2021 Cacowards.
  • July 26 - DBP37: AUGER;ZENITH is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would be selected as one of the runners-up at the 2021 Cacowards.
  • August 10 - The remaster of Urban Brawl is released, featuring additional attacks for the player and better compatibility with GZDoom among other enhancements.
  • August 29 - Down the Drain is first released.
  • October 5 - Old Still Life is released. Later that year, it would be selected as one of the runners-up at the 2021 Cacowards.
  • November 1 - NoReason's Speedmaps 3 is first released.
  • November 13 - NoReason's Speedmaps 3 is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would receive an honorable mention at the 2021 Cacowards.
  • December 4 - Down the Drain is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would be selected as one of the runners-up at the 2021 Cacowards.

  • March 2 - John Romero releases his first Doom II PWAD in over 27 years.[7] One Humanity is a single level for limit-removing ports, sold for €5.00 with all proceeds going towards supporting the humanitarian relief efforts in the wake of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
  • April 27 - Irkalla is first released. Later that year, it would receive an honorable mention at the 2022 Cacowards.
  • October 29 - Initial release of Sepia. Next year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • October 31 - 2022 A Doom Odyssey is uploaded to the /idgames archive. Later that year, it would be selected as one of the runners-up at the 2022 Cacowards.
  • November 1 - Remastered version of Action Doom is released under the subtitle Rampage Edition.
  • December 7 - 10th anniversary update for Winter's Fury is released.

  • March 3 - My House is released. It quickly gains popularity and becomes known even outside the Doom community. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • May 4 - Initial release of DBK03: Shrine of the Silver CyberPrimate. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • May 21 - Initial release of Austrian Avian Association. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • May 30 - Initial release of Dreamblood. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • July 7 - Initial release of Ultimate Doom In Name Only. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • September 1 - Initial release of Insanity Edged. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • October 2 - Initial release of Piña Colada. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • October 14 - Initial release of Hardfest 2. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • October 22 - Initial release of Godless Night. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
  • October 31 - Initial release of worm\V/wood. Later that year it would win a Cacoward at the 2023 Cacowards.
