What Does "Alychne" Mean?

Alychne? What the blazes is that? Well, Doom and related works are dark, dark, dark games. Particularly in contrast with stuff like Commander Keen. And "Alychne" is about as dark as you can get: the Alychne is the locus of coordinates in a color space which have no luminance whatsoever.
