DSDA links[edit]

Hi, it's not that I don't appreciate your efforts, but the DSDA updates are already being done mostly botwise. If you really wanna do nearly 5000 edits manually, fine, I'll sit back and wait a few weeks. ;-) Otherwise, be patient for the bot runs to be completed, then we can mop up any stragglers. --Xymph (talk) 12:43, 20 November 2020 (CST)

Oh, I did not notice the bot activity. Understood. Diabolución (talk) 12:46, 20 November 2020 (CST)
Phew, because approving all your edits would have been more time-consuming, too. :) --Xymph (talk) 12:52, 20 November 2020 (CST)
A win-win situation, then. Diabolución (talk) 13:26, 20 November 2020 (CST)

Townsend[edit]

Hi, if Townsend's first name was originally spelled Justin by accident, wouldn't that be better fixed everywhere, rather than create an alias/redirect? Or if intentional, what was the source for naming him Justin instead of Jay? The OMD review also uses Jay. --Xymph (talk) 11:14, 30 November 2020 (CST)

I think that was intentional, as he was supposed to provide his name via e-mail when submitting the level. These were my sources, at any rate:

https://web.archive.org/web/20020618155318/http://www.doomcenter.com/features/features.phtml?id=97526 (2nd: Justin 'Jxt' Townsend, Jxt-e1m1.wad, E2M6 in megawad [download])

Gotcha, in that case I at least merged the mapper category. --Xymph (talk) 12:26, 30 November 2020 (CST)

Donut[edit]

Thanks for fixing the redirect. Me did EMODF but the #anchor part of the redirect requires javashit (me uses lynx). Perhaps mediawiki should be fixed to issue a 302... 185.64.40.23 20:25, 5 February 2021 (CST)

If I may: 302s have been discussed for years but not yet approved or rejected [1].  If approved, I suspect redirects would be banned on this site as an SEO risk.  I definitely agree about JS, no MediaWiki function should ever require it unconditionally [2].  But Lynx is not a supported app, so even after the fix, you'd have to test again and possibly write the PHP patch yourself if you desired prompt action.  :7  HTH.  Ryan W (living fossil) 11:09, 12 February 2021 (CST)

When creating single-level WAD articles, use the map skel template[edit]

Hi, thanks for your efforts on the wiki, however, when creating a level/map article, make sure to use the subst:map_skel (add {{ }} so that it generates the article) so that the article generates the full skeleton. Afterwards, you can simply edit it and add the rest of the information. This is also for the bot to work properly and fill the rest of the article. Thanks and good luck! - Endless01 (talk) 21:33, 16 June 2022 (CDT)

Well, in practice with or without skeleton is fine, as multiple sections need updating in the raw skeleton (secret sectors, DM spawns, stats) and I do that manually in one go, along with other clean-up if needed. So whether I need to paste in just those sections or the entire DMMPST-generated skeleton makes little difference. Only after that, a bot script fills in the DSDA records, if any. --Xymph (talk) 01:56, 17 June 2022 (CDT)
