Map names[edit]

There is usually no need to explicitly specify the map's name in the map template when the pagename follows the "LUMPNAME: Map name" convention. The template detects the colon. If you look for example at MAP17: Canyon of Blood (Scythe 2), you'll notice it is in the proper place in both Category:MAP17 and Category:Levels by name. --Gez 11:39, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, didn't know about that - it was not obvious to me at all. Unmaker 15:17, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Doom 3 radiation quirk[edit]

Sorry, immediately after I undid the edit, I realised the reason I gave was invalid. Nevertheless, the suit is designed to help him breathe on an oxygen-less atmosphere as you said, but that's different to toxic gas, that's why they have Hazmat suits. --Eris Falling 17:04, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Eris, I know you're quite a young person (donk ask where from), but I suppose you have had some basic physics course at your school. The athmosphere on Mars is almost vacuum, there's no way one could survive there in a simple oxygen mask, you'd need a closed-circuit rebreather, and a spacesuit of some kind (you may lookup vacuum exposure, quite scary stuff). And this kind of gear would certainly protect you from any toxic inhalants.
On the second thought, all marines you see in the game are equipped with armor vests (arms are exposed), and if the stuff that Betruger is spewing is somehow corrosive, it would still damage you. Or eat through your spacesuit, whatever. But the Doomguy coughs from time to time, so this must be only gas? Bottom line is, initially I thought you weren't fully understanding the subject, but now it seems to me you can do whatever you like with that edit :) Unmaker 17:54, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Calculating item counts[edit]

I noticed recently you added the missing fields to the things counts on early CC4 maps. Just out of interest, how do you calculate these? I've always been working out monsters by opening a map in ZDoom and using the kill <monsterclass> command for each skill level and each monster, but obviously there's no way of finding how many shell boxes there are in a map like that.. --Eris Falling 08:06, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

That's some kludgy way of doing things :) Probably it's possible to make an ACS script for dumping actors, though it's been ages since I dealt with those (or played ZDoom at all, for that matter). Well, personally I use a modified version of this that outputs wiki-formatted data. There ought to be other methods of course. There's this old thing that can be of some use if you know Perl (from the looks of it, because I don't). Also I think I heard User:Jartapran using DeePsea for his Heretic articles, though I'm not sure. Hope this helps. Unmaker 22:56, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Hive of Evil etc.[edit]

Just wanted to let you know it's alright to have links to wikis on that site when there's absolutely no better source ;) The whole "evil" thing is a running gag here since we did the fork. But of course, for sake of our independence and our SEO, it's obviously best to deprive them of the links when we can - I draw the line at the point where not having a link lowers the quality of an article (which would be the case for Wolfenstein SS IMO). --Quasar 16:21, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
