wHeretic is a Win32 Heretic source port made by Robin McLeod. Its first version was released on January 16, 1999,[1] just five days after the release of Heretic source code on January 11. The last released version was v0.5a build 9 on May 27, 2000. wHeretic's source code was never released.

Raven Software released Heretic and Hexen source code on January 11, 1999. On January 14, Robin McLeod created a working recompile of Heretic code for DOS, dubbed dHeretic. Sound and music have been removed from it.

Three days later, on January 16, Robin released a Win32 source port of Heretic, which he called wHeretic v0.1a ("a" stands for "alpha").

  • v0.2a was released on February 11, 1999.
  • v0.3x was released on March 20, 1999 ("x" stands for "experimental").
  • v0.3x build 2 was released on March 21, 1999.
  • v0.3x build 3 was released on March 23, 1999.
  • v0.3x build 5 was released on March 31, 1999.
  • v0.3a was released on April 12, 1999.
  • v0.4a build 1 was released on July 29, 1999.
  • v0.4a build 2 was released on August 3, 1999.
  • v0.4a build 3 was released on August 20, 1999.
  • v0.4a build 4 was released on September 30, 1999.
  • v0.5a build 4 was released on November 3, 1999.
  • v0.5a build 5 was released on November 4, 1999.
  • v0.5a build 6 was released on January 26, 2000.
  • v0.5a build 7 was released on February 11, 2000.
  • v0.5a build 8 was released on April 17, 2000.
  • v0.5a build 9 was released on May 27, 2000. It is the last wHeretic release.

On July 29, 2004, Robin McLeod created a thread on Doomworld forums asking the community to comment on wHeretic because he was considering reviving it.[2] But within a week the discussion died down.

On August 22, 2005, Robin removed all status updates from wHeretic webpage.
