A wiki is a website that allows the creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages using a simplified markup language. Wikis are typically powered by purpose-built software, and are often used and maintained collaboratively by a group of users. Examples include community websites, corporate intranets, knowledge management systems, and note-taking services.

The first known wiki was WikiWikiWeb, named after the Wiki Wiki Shuttle at Honolulu International Airport. "Wiki" is Hawaiian for "fast", i.e. if the reader wants to make a change, they can do it immediately.
