In October 2020, JP LeBreton released Works of the Masters as an add-on mod for WadSmoosh. After researching the history and background on the Master Levels for Doom II and its authors, he started its development as a form of "deluxe Master Levels," compiling together all of the 21 maps officially included in the Master Levels, 14 (out of 161) maps originally rejected for inclusion in the Master Levels, and eight additional, related levels.
The file itself (masters.pk3) contains only the freely released levels and does not include any of the original 21 Master Levels. The maps contain only minor changes from their official public releases, primarily changes to enable 100% kills, items and secrets on all five difficulty settings, and to prevent texture definition conflicts.
1. ^ Of the original rejected levels, the two maps not included on the add-on are TNT: Evilution's MAP01: System Control and MAP17: Processing Area.

Episodes[edit]
The Works includes the following five episodes:
- Inferno, based on the series by Dr. Sleep.
- Titan, based on the series by Jim Flynn.
- Cabal, based on the series by Sverre Kvernmo.
- Chris Klie, the unnamed series of 12 maps made by Chris Klie.
- Willits/Chasar + Mustaine, a miscellaneous collection of maps, not sharing any one particular theme, made by Tom Mustaine, Tim Willits, and Theresa Chasar.

Titan[edit]
Due to the lack of a definitive level progression, LeBreton determined this episode's level order after a mix of each level's story text and difficulty scaling.

Cabal[edit]
According to LeBreton, he arrived at the following level order after emailing back and forth with Kvernmo, citing "this was the sequence he felt best presented his work."[1]

Chris Klie[edit]
According to LeBreton, the level progression was determined mostly arbitrarily based on his own play-throughs, as Chris Klie did not strictly follow any particular theme or story for his maps, designing them as small, self-contained levels that make use of a mix of the techbase and hellish mapping themes.
